Example Schedule - Newborn
Welcome to life with a newborn! There are so many changes ahead and this is for you take a peek of a typical day. There is no ‘right’ way in the beginning. Expect many wake-ups at night, lots of diapers, feeding, and naps!
I talk about how to help set up your baby for sleep success within my book, Happy Sleeping Baby, which you can read more about or order here. The number one tip is to watch your baby’s awake time. From birth to 2 months old, their awake time should be around 45 mins to 1 hour. Watch for sleepy cues, such as rubbing eyes, becoming disinterested in activity, and turning their head to the side in search of food. This is only an example! The best method is to keep to keep track of wake, eat, and sleep times to figure out the best schedule for you. Once your baby wakes, be sure to watch the clock and have them sleeping again within 45 mins to 1 hour. A day with a newborn (birth to 8 weeks) 6:00 am – Feed, diaper, sleep 9:00 am – Feed, awake time 10:00 am – Nap (about 30-60 mins) 11:00 am – Feed, awake time 12:15 pm – Nap (30-60 mins) 1:30 pm – Feed, awake time 2:30 pm – Nap (30 – 60 mins) 3:30 pm – Feed, awake time 5:00 pm – Nap (30 – 60 mins) 6:30 pm – Feed, awake time 7:30 pm – Short nap (20 – 30 mins) 8:00 pm – Feed, awake time 9:30 pm – Short nap (20 – 30 mins) 10:00 pm – Feed and sleep *Possibly 3 night feedings I talk about how to help set up your baby for sleep success within my book, Happy Sleeping Baby, which you can read more about or order here.
