About me
Hi, I'm Courtney Landin, a child sleep coach who has been working with helping families since 2014. I'm focused on helping your family get the sleep you need and deserve! I'm an American living in Sweden, but I can help you no matter where you are in the world! Plus, with my new book you can use my advice anywhere and anytime! Learn more about the Happy Sleeping Baby book here!
Baby sleep can be rather confusing, I know because I struggled for too many months with my daughter! I had read all I could read about babies so, I thought I was prepared. Oh, how wrong I was and shocked when we struggled with sleep. After months of midnight Google-ing sessions, I was at my wits-end and got help. (You can read my full story below). From my education and experience with working with parents, I learned so much more about sleep and why what I was trying wasn’t working. I also realized that I wanted to help parents who were struggling to understand their baby’s sleep just like I had. So, here I am and loving what I do for parents like you. As a Family Health Coach, I not only specialize in sleep, but also in exercise and nutrition because these are our foundations for a healthy life. You can learn more about how I help train women during pregnancy and afterwards, help the whole family get moving, and how to fill our bodies with nutritious food over at www.LivingHealthyHappy.com My sleep philosophy (click to read more) is that healthy sleep habits start at an early age and yes, babies can learn how to sleep well! Children’s bodies need sleep to function, develop, and grow. Healthy sleep habits make for healthy children and a well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn. All support and plans at Happy Sleeping Baby are science-backed yet, adapted to the individual needs of each family, and always parent assisted, which means you’ll be helping your child learn the skill of sleep. Sleep is a puzzle and I’m here to help you understand and put that sleep puzzle together to have Happy Sleep! |

My Story
At our wits end and in need of sleep
My search for sleep guidance began a few months after my daughter was born. I had been prepared for sleepless nights, but after 8 months I was still waking up every two hours or less at night and truly struggling during the days. My husband and I started to understand completely why depriving a person of sleep is a form of torture. It might sound funny, I know, but it definitely did not seem funny at the time! Our little girl screamed when she was put down and therefore, she lived on me day and night. Not only did she scream but I also did not understand why she wasn’t sleeping like a baby should. Whenever I stopped moving and fell asleep myself, she immediately woke up and started screaming again. It was a nightmare that was totally overwhelming not to mention physically and mentally exhausting. My husband and I were at our wits end and in need of sleep.
We had some relief around five months old when, after many trips to the doctor where I was looked at like I was a crazy mama, we found out that she had a dairy allergy, which contributed to her discomfort and general fussiness. She wasn’t allergic to sleep; she was allergic to dairy! Never doubt your parenting instinct if something “doesn’t feel right!” After this discovery, she was much happier, but we soon realized that we had a sleeping issue due to us constantly trying to provide her comfort for many months. My daughter had developed a dependency on being held and rocked to sleep, only for her to wake when put down. These methods are not wrong, but it becomes extremely tiring when a child becomes dependent on these in order to be put to sleep and stay asleep. At six months old she didn’t know what a bed was. In hopes of change, I scoured the Internet in search of information and ultimately found sleep advice that helped! After a few months of perseverance and making some of my own changes to the advice I was given, we found our rhythm and I am happy to report that she is an amazing sleeper to this day. Of course, we still have our ‘off’ days, that’s only human, but on the whole we all now enjoy peaceful and restful sleep 99% of the time. Not only that, but if you had told me back at the start that little ‘T’ would make moves towards her crib when she wanted to go to sleep, I would never have believed you. But that is what she did and now goes to sleep in her big bed without a problem. The methods I learned and adapted for us helped my family to regain proper sleep and I became passionate about learning how I could help other struggling families.
My sleep education
My interest in sleep began when I was an Olympic athlete competing for the United States (under my maiden name of Courtney Zablocki). For more than 16 years I raced down an icy track competing in the sport of Luge. I travelled the world, competing in World Cups, multiple World Championship races, and then in 2002 and 2006, the Olympic Games. During this time, I started learning how important sleep is for rejuvenation for the mind and body, but it wasn’t until I had little ‘T’ did I fully understand the importance of sleep! Man, do I wish I had slept more when I was younger!
After experiencing a huge shift in ‘T’s sleep, I wanted to share this knowledge with more parents and help them through the hard, sleepless nights. Too many think that it’s just a phase to struggle through. Yes, some parts are tough phases, but the majority of the time doesn’t have to be a struggle.
In 2014, I decided to train as a sleep specialist and thereafter completed a vigorous certification program which required me to attend a three-day program followed by a three-month coaching and mentor program. I have taken courses on Infant Mental Health through the Infant Mental Health Promotion program based in Toronto, Canada. I have also completed a Certified Sleep Science Coach program because I wanted to be able to help adults as well and I continue to read current research around sleep issues both for adults and babies. With all of this information, I created my own Happy Sleep program which I believe is the most comprehensive sleep program at the moment. Helping babies and children to sleep is my passion!
With my experience and education, I will save you the time of trying to find the right method, schedule, routines, not to mention save you countless hours of reading and questioning you need to achieve what you trying to do. Through personal experience, education, and numerous hours of working with babies and their parents, I have created a method that works wonders in helping babies and young children to achieve happy sleep! I look forward to sharing my insights with you and to helping you achieve sleep again!
